Hepatitis is a worldwide transmitted disease, with the main cause of poor hygiene. It is more widespread in undeveloped countries, where clean food or water is not available.
Emirates Health Services (EHS) of the UAE has collaborated with other countries to mark Thursday, 28th July, as World Hepatitis Day. They created digital campaigns on social media to introduce the disease. This will cover its symptoms, ways of prevention, and more related terms.
The campaign stated the five main types of viruses that may develop hepatitis, i.e. Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. Of which, A and E and mostly caused by consuming contaminated water or food. Whereas B, C, and D are a result of transfusion of contaminated blood or the use of unhygienic medical devices.
What was indicated in the World Hepatitis Day campaign?
The campaign covered the following points:
- Hepatitis patients may develop mild or no symptoms, especially for Hepatitis C.
- Indicated dangers of hepatitis C and its prevention.
- Prevention measures and adoption of healthy habits and good hygiene.
- Notified people of the symptoms of Hepatitis.
Symptoms of Hepatitis
Chronic forms of the disease, like B and C, may not show symptoms until they start to damage your liver. Other common symptoms from HAV, HDV, or HEX viruses are listed below.
- Fatigue
- Abdominal pain
- Loss of appetite
- Dark urine
- Pale stool
- Sudden weight loss
- Yellow eyes and skin – a sign of jaundice.
