Biopic of Shoaib Akhtar, Pakistan’s cricket legend, announced by Dubai filmmaker

An upcoming biopic about Pakistan cricket legend and world’s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar has finally been greenlit. Dubai-based filmmaker Faraz Qaiser is bringing this famed cricketer’s story to life with production house QFilm Productions.

Since Shoaib Akhtar hails from Rawalpindi, Pakistan and has been credited with bowling the fastest deliveries in cricket, the film is appropriately named “Rawalpindi Express.

“Nov 16, 2023 is the worldwide release date for the film. This date is in honor of the fastest ball ever bowled by the iconic speedster at a speed of 161.3 km/ph against England during a 2003 World Cup group match.

In UAE, Pakistan and Australia, shoot locations have been finalized for this first ever biopic on a bowler.

It is a beautiful story of perseverance, struggle, and passion that needs to be told, according to Director Faraz Qaiser of “Rawalpindi Express,” who spent five years researching Shoaib Akhtar’s journey from a small town cricketer to an international superstar.

On the field, Shoaib Akhtar has rattled some of the best batsmen with his lethal pace and toe crushing yorkers. As a child, I was an ardent fan and follower of the star, and I recall sitting on my father’s shoulders to watch him perform. After watching Akhtar’s journey on TV, I got inspired to make a biopic, which originated from my father and seeped into my mind. During the last 5 years, it has grown into a vision, a dream, a passionate tale.”

“I presented my idea to Shoaib Akhtar and my father Qaiser Nawaz who is also the writer of the film in February 2020. He agreed after extensive discussions and gave the project the go ahead.” he said. It was a pleasure to meet him so up close and personal. We also got a lot of input from his friends and family. We are really grateful to everyone who contributed to our success.
