The ‘flying park’ in an observation tower at Expo 2020 Dubai is a new attraction at the fair

Expo 2020 organizers have announced that water will defy gravity and flow upward as one of the attractions at the site. The stunning ‘Expo 2020 Water Feature’ will feature an orchestral score by the award-winning composer of the Game of Thrones theme song.

“Explore giant water sheets tumbling down 13-metre-high vertical walls that, by day, cascade into a multi-hued circle of fire, and by night, defy gravity by flowing upwards,” organizers said.

As a result, the Expo team announced more details about two new attractions coming to the site. One of the other attractions was the 55-metre observation tower with a ‘flying park’ when His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, visited the site on September 1.

The Expo 2020 Water Feature combines the elements of water, earth, and fire between Al Wasl Plaza and Jubilee Park. From Al Wasl Plaza, visitors enter a verdant 40-metre-wide garden of towering palms and fragrant plants rising above a series of curving paths that encircle a central water feature. A central area takes visitors down beneath ground level, where large plant walls rise up around it. Three entrances lead to the feature,” Expo 2020 said.

It features 153 individual waves, ranging from glistening sheets to bursts of water that “literally leap from the walls as they make their dramatic descent to the plaza below”. It is possible to walk to the base of the falls to see how the water disappears through the stone. Nighttime, the waves reverse their direction – sending them up the walls in a gravity-defying display.”

An immense circle of flames bursts from the center of the feature in hues of red, green, and yellow. These huge flames are made from pure hydrogen, in keeping with Expo 2020’s theme of sustainability.
